Shakespeare Project
Self-Assessment
Throughout the Shakespeare project I have show some good and bad use of our 21st century skills. I feel like I have most shown my use of Problem Solving, throughout the project I have come upon many challenges. I have overcome many of these problems to the best of my ability. For example the sheets kept blowing around and things kept getting knocked down on the set due to the lack of time we spent refining the set. I went back and tried to make everything more secure and presentable. My influence with Creativity was not at its best, but I did try to think of new ideas for the set while my partners and I came together on a group decision for the set with limited funds. I thought that another thing I exemplified very well was Cooperation, I was not leading the group but I did feel like I put in my fair share of work towards the group. I feel like I was positive and encouraging towards my production role group even when I did not have anything to do. I feel like I may have lacked in my role with Communication. I could have been more effective with communication by helping tell people where to be and what to be doing when I noticed. Using Social Responsibility in the project I found new ways to interact with people I don't usually talk to, this benefited the project because we were kind and helpful towards each other. My Organization in the project was poor, I would have received a better grade on all of my planning papers If i would have kept better track of them because I lost so many of them. I feel like I deserve the standard for this piece of the rubric.
I believe that I worked very efficiently during class time. I memorized my lines, I asked to help build or paint things when things needed to be done, I made multiple props and painted the prisms. I am proud of the way that I completed this portion of the project. I did notice that I was not on my best of behavior during some of the project, but overall I think I deserve the standard for this portion of the rubric.
Reflection
The Shakespeare project was completed with multiple steps ending with a play. In the play I acted in two different parts. These two parts were small parts in reality to the play, but I played Starveling and Moonshine. This project included a Shakespeare essay about Theseus’ view on love, perception, and reality. Then we did a poetry conversion, poster making about a certain character in A Midsummer Nights Dream. We then ended with the play itself. The play was performed very well and the outside setting that we did it in worked out very well.
To be completely honest I did not connect with this project at all, it was fun but nothing that caught my attention too much. I liked the play the most out of the project because we were able to all come together as classmates to create something very cool. The best moment out of the project was painting and drawing the set design. This was very cool because I love creating and building things that have a real purpose. And it was cool to see it all come together in the play itself. I thought it was very cool how we were able to be be very creative about this project with such a low budget.
This project was very difficult because it was very hard to get everyone on the same page. It was difficult memorizing lines and being able to hear your cue .Another difficult thing about this project was comprise, my group and I had a very hard time compromising on set ideas and painting and drawing ideas. A moment that I had to persevere through something challenging was when we were rehearsing the play and I had to remember my ques and when I was supposed to speak. At the end everything went smoothly on my part and the classes as well.
Throughout this project I actually learned a lot about myself. I learned that I am an awful actor. I learned that I have been getting better at working with a large group of people. In this project I personally think that I did not do my part as a leader and I am definitely going to work on that in the future. Another thing I learned about myself through this project was my self determination, If I have a specific goal for the day I have gotten better at achieving that goal by the end of it.
After studying william Shakespeare for the last month the answer to this question has now become more clear. "Why, 400 years later, does the English-speaking world still gravitate/celebrate the works of William Shakespeare?" I think that we still celebrate the works of William Shakespeare because even though his plays and poems are not realistic to society today by the way things happen inside them, we still have love and tragedies happening everyday. His art gives us something to compare to and to laugh to. It is entertainment and people will enjoy it for the rest of time.
